This summer, all eyes in the track and field community were on Historic Hayward Field,\u00a0where the top athletes from the United States competed for the chance to represent the US in London, at the 2012 Olympics. While the weather could have been better, the competition was as good as it gets.<\/p>\n
In the first event on Day 1, Ashton Eaton set a World Record in the Decathlon competition, when he ran\u00a0100 meters in 10.21 seconds. Then, in the very next event, Eaton set another World Record in the Decathlon Long Jump.<\/p>\n
And for those lucky enough to have a ticket, the experience inside Hayward was one of the best track events ever. There was sizzling action, both on the track, record performances in the field events, and a parade of Hall of Fame athletes.<\/p>\n
And to keep track of it all, fans were treated to two video boards to help them keep track of the action. Whether inside Historic Hayward Field, or in the popular Fan Festival, track fans were treated with extra closeup action, summary packs, highlight music videos, virtual studio and a plethora of musical entertainment.<\/p>\n
Oregon Director of Track & Field said, “It was the best stadium show I have ever seen. Better than the World Championships!” And he was not alone in thinking this was something special, event in Tracktown USA.<\/p>\n
We can only hope that we can bring the same excitement to Tracktown for the next 3 big events. Historic Hayward Field will be the \u00a0site of the NCAA Championships in 2013 and 1015. But the biggest event to ever land in Tracktown will the 2014 IAAF Junior World Championships.<\/p>\n
