{"id":3,"date":"2011-10-13T02:06:33","date_gmt":"2011-10-13T02:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tracktownproductions.com\/?p=3"},"modified":"2013-01-14T03:24:23","modified_gmt":"2013-01-14T03:24:23","slug":"competition-schedule-released-for-2012-u-s-olympic-team-trials-%e2%80%93-track-and-field","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tracktownproductions.com\/?p=3","title":{"rendered":"2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials  \u2013 Track and Field"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Competition schedule released for 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials \u2013 Track and Field<br \/>\nTrackTown12 opens up with the Hammer Throw on June 21<\/p>\n<p>Eugene, Ore. \u2013 (Oct. 12, 2011) \u00ac\u00ac\u2013\u2013 The TrackTown12 Local Organizing Committee, in conjunction with the United States Olympic Committee and USA Track &amp; Field on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, announced the release of the competition schedule for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials \u2013 Track and Field that will take place June 21 to July 1.<\/p>\n<p>The first official U.S. Olympic Trials event begins on the evening of Thursday, June 21, with a special edition of the men\u2019s and women\u2019s hammer throw at the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Ore. The special location for the hammer throw will be a new and exciting phenomenon in U.S.-based competition, and is a practice which started with much success at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where the shot put competition was held inside the Coliseum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe consider the Olympic Trials to be one of the three greatest track and field meets on the planet, after only the Olympic Games themselves and the World Championships,\u201d said <a title=\"USA Track &amp; Field\" href=\"http:\/\/usatf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">USATF<\/a> Interim CEO Mike McNees. \u201cAll of our events are showcased, with athletes trying for that coveted Olympic Team roster spot. Eugene proved itself to be an innovative host for the Olympic Trials in 2008, and they are continuing that innovation in 2012 with the special men\u2019s and women\u2019s hammer throw. We have no doubt the hammer will be a true showcase event that will get the meet off to a great start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, June 22, the first full day of action kicks off at the <a title=\"Hayward Field\" href=\"http:\/\/www.goducks.com\/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=500&amp;ATCLID=205174795\" target=\"_blank\">University of Oregon\u2019s<\/a> Historic Hayward Field with <a title=\"USATF: Ashton Eaton\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usatf.org\/Athletes\/Bios\/Eaton_Ashton.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Ashton Eaton<\/a>, <a title=\"USATF: Trey Hardee\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usatf.org\/Athletes\/Bios\/Hardee_Trey.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Trey Hardee<\/a> and <a title=\"USATF: Bryan Clay\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usatf.org\/Athletes\/Bios\/Clay_Bryan.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Bryan Clay<\/a> in the men\u2019s decathlon, and concludes with the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 10,000 meters. The first weekend of competition is a busy one as finals in the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 100 and 400 meters, men\u2019s long jump, women\u2019s pole vault and women\u2019s discus are contested.<\/p>\n<p>Monday, June 25 also promises to be a great day of highlights, with reigning World Champion high jumper Jesse Williams headlining in the field events, while finals of both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 800 will be on the track.<\/p>\n<p>Two rest days \u2013 June 26 and June 27 \u2013 are sandwiched in between the two four-day periods of track and field competition. Special community events, including an all-comers meet hosted by the Oregon Track Club, will give fans a chance to compete at Hayward Field\u2019s hallowed grounds on the non-competition days.<\/p>\n<p>The final in the men\u2019s pole vault and the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 5,000 meters will bring fans back to their seats on Thursday, June 28. The heptathlon will kick off Friday\u2019s show, with the final of the women\u2019s shot put and the women\u2019s 3,000-meter steeplechase coming in the evening. Saturday also promises to be a day of excitement: with the men\u2019s 110 meter hurdles and the women\u2019s 200 meters.<\/p>\n<p>On the final day, the women\u2019s long jump, men\u2019s and women\u2019s 400 meter hurdles, men\u2019s and women\u2019s 1,500 meters and men\u2019s 200 meters are expected to bring to event to a marvelous close.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the stakeholders in TrackTown12 have put together a fantastic competition schedule,\u201d said Vin Lananna, co-chair of the Local Organizing Committee and associate athletic director at the University of Oregon. \u201cWe believe this exciting schedule will maximize athletic performances as the world\u2019s number one team prepares for the Olympic Games in London. We also think it will optimize the fan experience, as we anticipate hosting the best track and field meet on American soil in a manner that can only be done in TrackTown USA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An expanded Hayward Field is well on its way to selling out\u2014as it did in 2008\u2014so fans are encouraged to purchase ticket packages soon, by visiting TrackTown12.com or calling 800-932-3668. All-session ticket packages are now available, and single-day sales will begin in Spring 2012.
